Keiller Leadership Academy Whole Site Modernization Project
Project Details
Keiller Leadership Academy, a charter school within the San Diego Unified School District, completed a two-phase Whole Site Modernization designed to improve instructional, administrative, and recreational facilities while creating a safer and more modern campus environment.
New Classroom Construction
Phase II of the project included construction of a new 14,000-square-foot, two-story classroom building with twelve classrooms, expanding instructional capacity and providing updated learning spaces for students and staff.
Building Modernization and System Upgrades
Renovation work included improvements to the administration building, auditorium, gymnasium, and library. The project also included new HVAC systems, upgraded interior and exterior lighting, and updated building controls.
Additional improvements were made to restrooms, the kitchen, PA system, access control, fire alarm, and telecommunications systems.
Watkins Environmental supports large-scale school modernization projects with services such as interior demolition and selective demolition, helping prepare existing facilities for renovation while preserving areas that remain in place.
Campus Safety and Accessibility Improvements
Site improvements focused on enhancing campus safety and security, upgrading playground areas, and improving accessibility throughout the property.
Project Completion
The modernization began in May 2021 and was completed in November 2022, with an estimated total budget of approximately $16.99 million. The completed upgrades provide Keiller Leadership Academy with improved learning spaces, modernized infrastructure, and enhanced campus amenities for students and staff.
