Project Details
Adams Elementary School and San Diego Global Vision Academy, co-located on a shared campus within the San Diego Unified School District, completed a comprehensive Whole Site Modernization designed to improve educational facilities, campus safety, and outdoor environments for both school communities.
Watkins Environmental supported the project with professional environmental and demolition services, helping prepare the campus for new construction and extensive site improvements. The work included elements of commercial demolition, selective demolition, and the careful removal of existing structures and materials.
Adams Elementary School Improvements:
- Demolition of the existing multipurpose building and temporary classrooms
- Construction of a new multipurpose building and three early-learning classroom buildings
- Upgrades to the existing two-story classroom building, including new finishes, an elevator, guardrails, exterior stairs, and HVAC improvements
- New landscaping, perimeter fencing, and expansion and resurfacing of the parking lot
- Installation of new playground equipment
SDGVA Improvements:
- Demolition of existing portable buildings and the kindergarten playground
- Construction of a new two-story building with classrooms, administrative offices, restrooms, and an elevator tower
- Construction of a single-story kindergarten and food-service building, along with a new lunch court shelter
- Site upgrades including landscaping and perimeter fencing
Projects involving older school buildings may also require specialized services such as commercial asbestos removal, commercial lead removal, or commercial mold remediation before demolition and construction can proceed safely.
The completed modernization improves the functionality, safety, and learning environments of both schools while creating shared spaces that encourage collaboration and greater community access.
