Family Resource Center Calexico

Project Details

The Calexico Unified School District relocated and expanded its Family Resource Center to a larger facility, strengthening its ability to provide academic assistance, wellness resources, and essential support services to local families. The new center places a strong emphasis on serving homeless and foster youth through the district’s McKinney-Vento program.

New Family Resource Center

The new facility is located at 641 Rockwood Avenue, Calexico, CA, on the former Aurora High School campus. Occupying approximately 6,000 square feet, the expanded space allows the district to better serve students and families while supporting future program growth.

Academic and Wellness Services

The center functions as a centralized hub for academic support, wellness programs, and community resources. Creating a space of this scale often requires careful building preparation, and Watkins Environmental supports educational facility renovations through services such as interior demolition and selective demolition, allowing existing buildings to be safely adapted for new uses.

Grand Opening

The McKinney-Vento Academic and Wellness Center officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 3, 2025, marking an important milestone in the district’s commitment to expanding educational resources and student support services.

The completed facility reflects Calexico Unified School District’s ongoing commitment to providing equitable access to education, wellness programs, and community-centered services for students and their families.
