Innovation Middle School Campus Modernization Project

Project Details

Innovation Middle School, part of the San Diego Unified School District, has completed a comprehensive Whole Site Modernization designed to accommodate enrollment growth, expand instructional capacity, and improve campus infrastructure in support of academic and extracurricular programs.

New Classroom Construction

The project included construction of a new 36,000-square-foot, two-story classroom building featuring ten classrooms, two locker rooms, restrooms, and administrative offices. Four new portable classrooms were also added to support the introduction of sixth grade.

Campus Modernization and Infrastructure Upgrades

Outdated portable buildings were removed and replaced as part of the modernization, while electrical systems were upgraded to improve campus functionality. The work also included relocation of the main distribution frame (MDF).

Watkins Environmental supports complex school modernization projects with services such as commercial demolition and selective demolition, helping clear and prepare existing facilities for new construction and renovation.

Athletic and Outdoor Improvements

Site improvements included construction of a new natural turf field and decomposed granite track, creating upgraded areas for athletics and outdoor activities.

A raised-platform amphitheater was also added to provide a dedicated space for outdoor assemblies, performances, and school events.

A Modernized Learning Environment

The completed improvements provide Innovation Middle School with expanded learning spaces, upgraded infrastructure, and enhanced outdoor facilities designed to support a safer, more functional, and engaging campus environment for students and staff.
